About the kitchen
Sprite Kitchen is a workshop notebook for people making 2D games on their own — the drawing half and the engine half, which are never really separate.
What's here
Three things, and nothing else. Pixel art technique: palettes, ramps, dithering, outlines, animation. Game dev from the 2D side: pixel-perfect cameras, sub-pixel movement, tilemaps that do not seam, sprites that stay crisp in a build. And resources — tilesets, sprite packs and palettes you can drop straight into a project.
Why it is written down
Most of what exists on this subject is video. Video is good for watching somebody draw and bad for everything else. When your sprite is blurry in the build and sharp in the editor, you do not want a fourteen-minute tutorial — you want the two lines that fix it, and you want to find them with Ctrl+F.
So everything here is text first, with images where an image is genuinely the argument. Every sprite on this site is served at its real size, unresampled, and told not to smooth when scaled. It would be strange to teach pixel art on a site that blurs it.
The assets
Packs live on itch.io, because that is where this community already is. Some are free. The tutorials and the packs feed each other: what gets explained here is what got built there.
Who
Write your bit here. A couple of sentences on who you are, what you are building, and what you were stuck on long enough to start writing about it. Readers trust a person more than a brand, and in a niche this small, the person is the differentiator.
